The College of Communication and Fine Arts

The College consists of the Department of Journalism, School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts, Speech Communication and Dramatic Arts, Art and the School of Music. There are 1800 students with majors in these divisions and 150 faculty in the College. We paint, conduct, act, direct, design, sing, write, compose, film, debate, dance, report, edit, interpret, sculpt, choreograph, draw, weave, cast and broadcast. All of this work is tightly woven into a learning tapestry by the threads of instruction, mentorship, work and play.

The journalism program balances classroom theory, taught by professionally experienced faculty, with service learning and other structured, hands-on experiences that help students develop the skills required for entry-level positions in the media. Journalism education also benefits students going into law, politics, consulting, health education, business, environ-mental and sports studies and a variety of other fields.

Through classroom, laboratory and co-curricular experiences, the broadcast and cinematic arts program offers both theoretical and applied courses in electronic media production, performance, advertising, programming, sales, promotion, management, electronic journalism and film criticism. These classes prepare students for a wide variety of
challenging and stimulating careers in telecommunications, advertising or public relations agencies and related mass media industries.
