M.E. Ware: Ritual Regalia for Contemporary Living

Reception: November 5, 2009 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The sculptural works in this exhibit were created by Art Professor, Margaret Ware, during a spring 2009 sabbatical. The works are wearable and conceptually wearable garments designed to illuminate contemporary society’s need for ceremony and ritual. These garments use traditional sculptural media and postconsumer goods constructed with a sense of irony and humor to expose deficiencies in our desire for meaning and purpose in contemporary life.

The Riecker Literary Series presentation consists of ghost stories and tales of the supernatural that will thrill the audience. This intimate, original theatre piece uses the works of Shirley Jackson, Elia Wilkinson Peattie and Pulitzer Prize winners Edith Wharton and Amy Lowell. The cast will include faculty guest artist Keeley Stanley-Bohn, and an ensemble of 5 student actors.
Admission is free, but due to limited seating tickets are required and will be available at the Central Box Office in the Bovee University Center at Central Michigan University (phone 989-774-3000).

A wonderful and uplifting musical that tells the tale of young Mary Lennox, from the tragic loss of her family to a new future filled with hope. Sent to live on her uncle’s estate, Mary discovers a locked door to a secret garden. An unrelenting search for its key uncovers a startling secret. Mary brings life to both the garden and all those who surround her in this Tony Award-winning musical celebration of love and family.
